$80,000 for Star Witness Colt

 In 2013

The first weanling to be offered for sale by Widden Stud’s dual Group I winner Star Witness met with keen interest at the Inglis Great Southern Weanling Sale on Tuesday.

The handsome chestnut colt from Crystal Whip was presented for sale by Shadwell Farm and attracted the attention of renowned New Zealand based pinhookers Bruce and Maureen Harvey of Ascot Farm in New Zealand who secured the youngster for $80,000.

The colt is the first foal of Lonhro mare Crystal Whip, a daughter of stakes-winner Crystal Wit, who is a half-sister to Group I STC Golden Slipper winner Crystal Lily and stakes-winners Amaethon and Crystal Web.

Crystal Whip returned to Widden Stud last spring and is now in foal to Stratum, so the resulting foal will be closely related to Crystal Lily, who is also by Stratum.

A brilliant son of champion miler Starcraft, Star Witness was a Group I winner over 1200 metres at two and three, from a female family heavily focused on speed.

He stands this spring at a fee of $22,000.
