Impressive Win for Stratum Filly

 In 2013

Sydney – Golden Slipper winner Stratum already has a Group I ATC Australian Oaks winner on his resume in Streama and champion trainer Gai Waterhouse believes he could have another after her filly Queenstown scored a resounding win at Warwick Farm on Thursday.

A big, leggy bay filly, who runs in the Star Thoroughbreds colours, Queenstown cruised along for Nash Rawiller stalking the leaders before powering away in the straight to win the 1400 metre contest by three lengths.

Entered for the Group I ATC Australian Oaks next month, Queenstown’s overall record stands at two wins and two placings from five starts with prizemoney nearing $70,000 and the best is still to come.

“She’s bred to be an Oaks filly and she won with real conviction today,” Waterhouse said.

Winning rider Nash Rawiller was also delighted with her performance.

“She was impressive today as she’s not a brilliant filly as such, but she rolled up her sleeves and got the job done well,” he said.

A $60,000 purchase for Star Thoroughbreds from the Armidale Stud draft at the 2011 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale, Queenstown is the second winner from Zabeel mare Regal Heights (NZ), who comes from the family of Group I winners Serious Speed and March Hare.

Stratum has a quality selection of a dozen entries for the 2013 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
