The 2019 Magic Millions Yearling Sale provided a new benchmark for our outstanding young sire Zoustar when his colt from Acouplamas made $1,075,000 at the Gold Coast on Thursday.

Offered by KBL Thoroughbreds on behalf of Bowcock Bloodstock, the stunning colt from stakes-placed Acouplamas was knocked down to Yulong Investments / RIFA Mustang.

“He’s outstanding,” said Yu Long’s Sam Fairgray.

“We’re delighted to be able to get him.

“He looks a real fast, precocious sort of horse. He moved well and the mare’s doing a good job with her first two progeny on the track so we’re pretty excited to get a Zoustar who is one of the new top sires of the future.”

The colt will be trained by Peter and Paul Snowden and is a half-brother to Group III placed The August and also smart metropolitan winner Seasons.

The result was a dream come true for his breeder Andrew Bowcock, who has a long association with Widden Stud, who stand his sire Zoustar.

“I knew he was a good horse, we just needed people to receive him well,” Bowcock told ANZ Bloodstock News.

“Us having the mare from day one, she’s had two fillies and three colts now and this fellow always had the smarts about him. It’s great to have a horse here by a sire that is doing so well in this country.”

By Al Maher from the family of Group I winners Blackfriars and Larrocha, Acouplamas missed in 2017 so had no foal last year, but is now in foal to Sebring.

Zoustar has had a sensational first two sessions at Magic Millions with 20 yearlings averaging $374,000.

Other big results for him include a colt from Shakeira (USA) that made $900,000 for Widden Stud when knocked down to Spendthrift Australia and a colt from Canyonville (NZ) that made $700,000 for Coolmore when bought by China Horse Club / Newgate Bloodstock.
