Resuming from a spell in the Listed ATC Starlight Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday, Stratum mare Egyptian Symbol found her best form to power clear and win.

Winner of the Group III ATC Nivison Stakes when making her seasonal debut in October last year, the Bjorn Baker-trained mare performs at her best fresh and she was making her first start here since finishing unplaced in the Group 1 BRC Tatts Tiara at Doomben in June.

With Jason Collett in the saddle, Egyptian Symbol stormed home to defeat Glenall by one and quarter lengths in the 1100 metre dash.

“She’d run really well last preparation, obviously without winning, but ran a close second to Eckstein and we know how good that form has worked out and she didn’t have a lot of luck in races like the Stradbroke,” Baker said.

“So I’m thrilled to see her back doing what she does best today.

“She’s always been a high-quality mare and been a good horse to me for a long time.

“She’s Magic Millions eligible so we’ll probably look towards going there again. She’s been there the last two years and been a bit unlucky. We might freshen her up and go straight to the sprint.”

Bred and retained by Bruce Neill’s Cressfield after passing in at the Magic Millions National Yearling Sale, Egyptian Symbol has won six of 20 starts earning just over $650,000 in prizemoney.

She is the best of six winners from former glamour mare Our Egyptian Raine, a Group I winner in New Zealand, who placed in no fewer than nine Group I races in Australia.

Egyptian Symbol is one of 35 stakes-winners by Stratum, who has 11 entries for Magic Millions and 10 for Inglis Classic.
