“The first three-year-old to capture both the Australian Guineas (gr. I) and the W. S. Cox Plate (gr. I),

An outstanding juvenile, Champion 3yo Shamus Award is Snitzel highest rated horse out of a mare by the highly-influential Success Express.”

Shamus Award is free of Northern Dancer in the first four generations of his pedigree, and Snitzel has enjoyed particular success with Northern Dancer through the relatives NureyevFairy King and Sadler’s WellsNureyev can be found through Stravinsky – broodmare sire of a Snitzel grade one winner –Peintre Celebre Spinning WorldThorn ParkFasliyevAshkalaniSoviet Star and Starcraft. The cross of Snitzel with mares by Encosta de Lago (a son of Fairy King) has produced grade one winners Invader and Summer Passage. From a mare by the Sadler’s Wells son, El Prado (sire of Medaglia d’Oro and Artie Schiller), Snitzel sired grade one winner Heavenly Blue, and the sire line has also enjoyed success with Sadler’s Wells through BaratheaBlevic (by Scenic), SingspielMontjeu and Galileo. It might also be worth introducing this sire line and family through Yeats and Perugino (sire of Testa Rossa).

Last Tycoon is a son of Try My Best, a horse from the same female line as Redoute’s Choice, and Snitzel has grade one winner Wandjina out of a mare by Last Tycoon, who could be found through such O’ReillyMarjuBigstoneIglesia and Written Tycoon. From the Deputy Minister branch of Northern Dancer, Snitzel is sire of a group winner from a mare by Dehere, and two stakes winners from a daughter of French Deputy. Shamus Award is already linebred to Northern Dancer through the similarly-bred Storm Bird and Nijinsky II, and doubling either of those horses appeal. The Storm Bird strain appears Bluebird (also responsible for Lake Coniston and Dolphin Street), and through Storm Cat, including via CatrailHennessy(sire of Johannesburg) and One Cool Cat, with Giant’s Causeway and his son Shamardal, and Tale of the Cat also appealing. Snitzel star, Sizzling, is out of a mare by General Nediym, a strain that could be particularly interesting here. Crossed back over mares from his own Danzig line, Snitzel has sired group winners out of mare by Beautiful Crown (by Chief’s Crown, also sire of Grand Lodge) and Mister C. There are also Redoute’s Choice line stakes winners out of mares by the Danzig line stallions AnabaaAkaaberCape Cross and Volksraad (both by Green Desert, also sire of Invincible SpiritDesert Sun and Magic Ring; grandsire of I Am Invincible);, Maroof and Langfuhr.

Shamus Award is free of Mr. Prospector, and Mr. Prospector line mares have produced 12 stakes winners for Snitzel. The Woodman and Gone West branches have been particularly successful, and other likely candidates include Thunder Gulch), End SweepDistorted HumorJade Hunter, Geiger CounterHussonetKing’s Best, Dubai DestinationSecret Savings, DubawiUmatilla (giving inbreeding to the important mare Dancing Show) and Unbridled’s Song.

The cross with Zabeel – available through SavabeelOctagonal, Reset and Lonhro is a proven one. From the Roberto line, Red Ransom and sons appeal, and Blushing Groom though such as Fantastic LightQuest For FameSpectrum, and Viscount should do well. Other broodmare sires to produce Snitzel stakes winners include Charnwood Forest (by Warning), Rubiton and Semipalatinsk (from the Nodouble/Noholme IIbranch of Star Kingdom).
