Stratum Filly Salutes

 In 2015

Golden Slipper winner Mossfun’s expensive half-brother Mawahibb was expected to open his account at Canterbury on Wednesday, but he was denied by a very determined filly by Stratum.

Prepared by Peter and Paul Snowden, Brigadoon Rise did plenty wrong at her first run at Gosford last month on heavy ground, but with the addition of blinkers and a firmer track she performed like a real racehorse.

She tracked the leaders and stalked Mawahibb down the straight before getting the better of the colt in a thrilling finish to the 1250 metre maiden.

“She’s quite immature and will go out after today and hopefully she will come back a stronger filly,” said Paul Snowden.

“She’ll be even better when she’s on top of the ground, but it was good to get the win out of the way.”

A $200,000 Magic Millions purchase for Triple Crown Syndications from the Widden Stud draft, Brigadoon Rise was also bred by Widden and is the second foal and second winner for juvenile winning Anabaa (USA) mare Anabarbarian, a half-sister to stakes-winner Woppitt.

From the family of Group I winners Rock Classic and Midnight Fever, Anabarbarian had a Sebring yearling colt sell for $160,000 at Magic Millions this year and has a Sebring weanling filly to follow.
