Widden Stud’s promising young sire Written By achieved a big result late on Monday at Inglis Premier when the Gilgai Farm bred and sold colt from Holy Cow sold for $410,000 to equal the previous best sales result for the young sire son of Written Tycoon.

A gorgeous chestnut reminiscent of his sire, the colt was snapped up by Ciaron Maher Bloodstock/ Best Bloodstock.

He is a half-brother to progressive three year-old Plus Fours, who ended a frustrating run of minor placings with an easy win at Pakenham last week.

“He is off a good farm in Gilgai, who’s produced some cracking types – Ole Kirk, Black Caviar, All Too Hard, just to name a few, and Written By was the champion two-year-old [colt] of his generation and I think this guy’s got all those attributes to be a nice, up-and-early two-year-old,” said Jarred Magnabosco of Best Bloodstock.

The colt is the fourth foal of stakes-placed Holy Cow, a half-sister to stakes-winner Ondina from the family of 2020 European Horse of the Year Ghaiyyath and Group I winners Nightime and Zhukova.

Written By has made a pleasing start to his stud career as the sire of Group III winner The Novelist and stakes performers Scorsese and Gangitano.
