$900,000 for Zousain Filly Bellazaine
The Waterhouse Bott stable make plenty of headlines for purchasing expensive yearlings, but they can also find value and were well rewarded at the Magic Millions National Sale on Tuesday for a smart investment at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale in 2024.
A Zousain filly snapped up from the draft of Widden Stud by Gai Waterhouse / Adrian Bott / Kestrel Thoroughbreds, Bellazaine won the Listed ATC Lonhro Plate at two, was then second in the Group II ATC Sweet Embrace Stakes and ran in all three legs of the Sydney 2YO Triple Crown, a rare achievement for a 2YO filly.
Presented in the Newgate Consignment, Bellazaine is a cracking type and was much admired in the lead up to the sale with Newgate Bloodstock/Scone Bloodstock Services securing her for $900,000 to the delight of her ownership group.
Part-owner Margie Sheedy was emotional after the sale given Bellazaine is the first horse she has been involved with.
“We had no expectations, literally. There’s such a variance of what she could have got. It’s quite late in the day, so we tried to temper our expectations,” she said.
“This is my first horse, some others it’s also their first horse, while some of us have owned many horses.
“For her first race we all came to Randwick, dressed up and had a bit of fun and then suddenly we’ve got this lifelong group of women friends who have ridden this incredible wave.
“She’s the most beautiful, amazing horse. She’s kind of like our baby, really.
“We’re very emotional because it’s been a beautiful ride.”
Bellazaine comes with a prolific Black type pedigree being from a half-sister to the dam of Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Unit Five, with Group winning filly My Gladiola also on the page.
