Sebring Quinella in Canterbury Opener
The night meeting at Canterbury on Friday kicked off with a quinella in the opening race for leading sire Sebring with Sir Bacchus proving too good for first starter Supply and Demand.
An eye-catching grey prepared by Chris Waller, Sir Bacchus was second when resuming from a spell last month at Canterbury and took good improvement from that outing.
He travelled off the pace and pounced late for Rory Hutchings to take the 1100 metre maiden by half a length at his third start.
A $130,000 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale purchase for Laurel Oak Bloodstock from the draft of Widden Stud, Sir Bacchus was bred by David O’Keefe’s Lockyer Thoroughbreds and is the first foal of his stakes-winning Encosta de Lago mare Bacchanal Woman.
