Sebring Winner Impressive at Randwick

A promising field of colts and geldings contested the Benchmark 70 event over 1200 metres at Randwick on Boxing Day with the Chris Waller trained Sebring gelding Sir Bacchus emerging triumphant.

An eye-catching grey, Sir Bacchus broke his maiden with a good win at Canterbury last start and stepped it up again to surge late for Rory Hutchings and win by half a length over Starspangledbanner’s full brother Barood.

“His last two runs have been good wins, so he’s a promising horse,” said Chris Waller, who was reluctant to commit to a Gold Coast trip for the Magic Millions eligible three year-old.

A $130,000 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale purchase for Laurel Oak Bloodstock from the draft of Widden Stud, Sir Bacchus has won two of four starts earning over $110,000 in prizemoney.

He was bred by David O’Keefe’s Lockyer Thoroughbreds and is the first foal of his stakes-winning Encosta de Lago mare Bacchanal Woman.

Sebring also had an impressive two year-old winner at Geelong with the Peter Moody trained colt Bringaroo scoring by more than four lengths at his second start.
