Sweet 60 for Zousain
Widden Stud’s Zousain hit 60 Australian winners for the season on Wednesday and is the leading third crop sire by winners with progeny earnings topping $3million and 13 yearlings to be offered at Magic Millions Gold Coast March.
By champion sire Zoustar, Zousain sired Bollinger Miss to win at Doomben following on the back of a winning treble at Goulburn on Tuesday with wins for Buckeye, Master Yoda and Inna Zou.
Zousain on 60 leads Too Darn Hot (GB) on 56 for winners in the third season division with Blue Point (IRE) in third on 51.
Zousain also had the top lot in the Inglis Digital March (early) Sale which concluded on Wednesday with unraced 3YO Holding Captive selling for $310,000.
Holding Captive is a $280,000 Easter Yearling Sale purchase for Ciaron Maher and David Redvers and has trialled once for a comprehensive victory at Caulfield a fortnight ago.
Several of the ownership group wanted to capitalise and sell their shares so it was decided to offer Holding Captive via Inglis Digital.
But Maher wasn’t prepared to let the gelding go, securing him online today.
“Basically a few owners wanted to cash out of him, which is fine, but Ciaron still has great belief in the horse so to appease everyone, he was put online on Inglis Digital and this is the fairest outcome possible,’’ Maher’s Head of Bloodstock Will Bourne said.
“He’s won a trial nicely and he’ll head to the races next Wednesday and he’s a horse we have a really good opinion of.’’
