Grant Burrill returns to Widden as Victorian Stud Manager
Widden Stud is pleased to announce the appointment of Grant Burrill as Stud Manager of its Victorian operation at Riddells Creek, with Grant set to take up the role on farm from the 28th April.
Grant brings a wealth of experience across the Australian and international thoroughbred industry, having held senior roles in farm and stud management over the past two decades. He began his career in 2001 at Spendthrift Farm in the United States, where he worked as Farm Manager and gained valuable exposure to one of the world’s leading breeding operations.
In 2005, Grant returned to Australia to join Widden Stud in the Hunter Valley as Assistant Stud Manager, a position he held for more than a decade. During this time, he was integral to daily operations and played a key role in upholding the high standards synonymous with the Widden brand.
He later served as Stud Manager at Spendthrift Australia, where he spent seven years overseeing the farm’s growth and development.
Most recently, Grant has been Victorian Territory Manager for Horsepower Feeds, further strengthening his industry connections and gaining valuable insight into the local breeding landscape.
With a deep understanding of thoroughbred breeding, farm management and client relations, Grant’s appointment marks a significant step forward for Widden Victoria as the farm continues to build on its strong foundations.
Speaking of his return, Grant said: “Widden has always held a special place for me, so I’m really pleased to be coming back to take on this position in Victoria. The farm presents a fantastic opportunity, and I’m looking forward to working with the team to further develop the operation while maintaining the highest standard of care and service for our clients.”
“Grant’s extensive experience, leadership and long-standing association with Widden make him an outstanding appointment,” said Antony Thompson. “His industry knowledge, both locally and internationally, combined with his understanding of the Widden philosophy, makes him ideally placed to lead our Victorian operation as it continues to grow.”
