The Playwright Sells for $675,000 to Widden Stud

A modest Magic Millions Book 2 purchase for just $60,000 for Tricolours Racing Syndications, Written By filly The Playwright has taken her all-ladies group of owners on the ride of a lifetime and sold at the Inglis Chairman’s Sale on Thursday for $675,000 in the Newgate Consignment.

Trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, she proved a fast and precocious juvenile, just like her sire Written By, and won the Group III ATC Widden Stakes as well as placing fourth in the Group I MRC Blue Diamond Stakes and the Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

She earned $836,750 on the track and delivered another parting windfall for her owners when she was snapped up by Widden Stud with a service to Zoustar the plan for her this spring.

“She was a really sharp two-year-old, just a perfect mare for Zoustar. Gai and Adrian did a great job with her and she was just a natural two-year-old,” said Antony Thompson.

“She won her first start. She was very good in the Magic Millions, came back and won the Widden Stakes and then was good in the Blue Diamond.

“All that two-year-old form we love and it works so well for us. We look forward to getting her home and getting her ready to visit Zoustar in the spring.”
