Horses bred by and sold by Rheinwood Pastoral include newly retired to stud Group I winners Libertad and Private Harry and at Ballarat on Sunday we saw another promising youngster off the same farm beginning his career with a dazzling debut win.

Zousain gelding Defarzio was taking on older rivals in the 1000m maiden as a short priced favourite and the Lindsay Park prepared juvenile gave ounters no cause for concern.

Ridden by Jye McNeil, Defarzio burst to the lead at the furlong and raced away to win by more than five lengths.

Defarzio was a $150,000 Inglis Classic purchase for  Lindsay Park Racing / Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock from the draft of Rheinwood Pastoral and is a half-brother to stakes-winner Upper Limits.

He is the second winner from Defar, a placed half-sister by Wanted to Group II winner Nurse Kitchen from the family of Group I New Zealand Derby winner Hades.

Rheinwood Pastoral sold a yearling Written By colt from Defar at Inglis Classic this year to John Foote Bloodstock for $120,000.

Zousain has sired 100 winners this season coming in four countries highlighted by Group winners Catch the Glory and Verzain and they include six juvenile winners.

Zousain is the leading third crop sire by winners and stands at Widden NSW at fee of $22,000.
