Written By 2YO Winner Bred and Raced by ‘The Legend’
The great Neville Begg prepared countless Group I winners in a long and successful as a trainer, but he is also a very astute breeder and a two year-old he bred and races was a promising winner at Wyong on Thursday.
By the Champion 2YO Colt Written By, who was also bred and raced by Begg, the John Thompson trained I’m Relevant was lining up for his third start in the 1300m maiden and was primed to improve.
He was sixth on debut to boom colt Omolong at Warwick Farm last month and then third in a strong maiden at Newcastle on July 11 won by well-bred Wootton Bassett (GB) filly Elstead.
With race fitness in his favour and a perfect ride from Dylan Gibbons, I’m Relevant settled third on the fence and when he secured clear passage was quick to dash up the inside to score a three-quarter length win.

John Thompson was thrilled for I’m Relevant to get the prize and believes there is more to come.
“He’s a nice horse and he’s starting to put it together,” said Thompson.
“He travelled a lot better today and it was a gun ride by Dylan, but he’s an improving horse. He’s got a future.”
Thompson will wait for the dust to settle before making any plans for the future.
“We’ll see how he pulls up. I’ll have a talk to the legend, Neville. It’s an absolute privilege to train a winner for him again, and his family,” Thompson added.
“It’s a wonderful racing family and they deserve everything they get back out of it.”

I’m Relevant is the third foal to race and third winner from well related Fastnet Rock mare Rock and Rose, who was bought by Neville Begg at the 2019 Inglis Broodmare Sale for $22,000.
Rock and Rose is from a half-sister to Champion Australian 3YO Filly Serenade Rose with the family also producing Group I winners Trekking, Jaarffi and this year’s Group I Australian Derby winner Green Spaces.
Currently in foal again to Written By, Rock and Rose also has a yearling filly and weanling filly by Zousain and Native Trail (GB).
I’m Relevant is the 70th Australian this season for Written By, who stands at Widden NSW at a fee of $22,000.
