Course Record Breaker for Doubtland
Far from the glitter and Group racing at Flemington, lightly raced Doubtland gelding Confucious Flyer smashed the track record at Morphettville Parks stamping himself as an exciting sprinter on the up.
Trained by Stuart Gower, Confucious Flyer was a hot favourite for the Benchmark 64 event over 1000m coming off a debut second in early October followed by a facile maiden win over 1050m.
Ridden by Noel Callow, the four year-old produced an explosive burst over the final furlong to gap his rivals winning by five lengths in 55.82 seconds with his last 600m in a blistering 32.56 seconds.
This bettered the previous record at Morphettville Parks set in 2020 by Star Hills clocking 56.71 seconds.
“He’s doing everything so easy, and he’s still so raw, he still doesn’t really know what he’s doing,” Gower said.
“He’s a promising horse, he’s going to go to the paddock tomorrow for three weeks then we will reassess and work out where we go in the autumn.”
A tendon injury halted a potential sale to Hong Kong last year, and that could prove to be a godsend for Gower.
“James Cummings was keen to get him, and I’m keen to keep him now,” he said.
A $10,000 Inglis Weanling Sale purchase from the Stonehouse Thoroughbreds draft for J Harris, Confucious Flyer is the bets of six winners from eight foals to race from Hughes My Daddy, a minor winner by Henny Hughes (USA) from the family of Group winning sprinters Pane in the Glass and Xilong.
Confucious Flyer looks a bright prospect for Widden Victoria’s value sire Doubtland, who stands for just $11,000.
