Hong Kong Juvenile Winner for Sebring
Just a day after his top class son Criterion captured the Group I ATC Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick over 2000 metres as a four year-old, his sire Sebring showed his versatility when producing a brilliant debut juvenile winner at Sha Tin in Hong Kong.
The Ricky Yiu trained gelding Happy Chappy jumped fast for Damian Lane and crossed to find the rail, sharing the lead from that point before forging clear to win the 1000 metre dash by a length in a brisk 57.11.
A $100,000 Magic Millions purchase for his trainer from the Raheen Stud draft, Happy Chappy was bred by the Nolan family and is the fourth winner from four to race from the good producer Countess Dehere.
A half-sister to stakes-placed Cointreau Ball, Countess Dehere comes from the family of stakes-winners Dancing Dynamite and Winter’s Dance.
With his oldest progeny just four year-olds, Sebring has shot up to third place on the Australian General Sires List by earnings following a stellar weekend highlighted by Criterion’s memorable victory and a great return for his high class filly Bring Me the Maid, a close second in the $500,000 Group II ATC Arrowfield Sprint.
