Another Widden Bred and Sold Stakes-Winner
Consistent without winning during the spring, talented five year-old mare Shamal Wind returned to the winner’s circle at Sandown on Australia Day to capture the Listed MRC WJ Adams Stakes for the second year in a row.
The speedy daughter of Dubawi (IRE) was turned out in perfect order by Robert Smerdon and powered clear to win the 1000 metre dash by more than two lengths.
Shamal Wind was a $55,000 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale purchase for Aquanita Racing from the draft of Widden Stud and has the overall record of seven wins and eight placings from 23 starts with $590,975 in prizemoney.
Bred by Widden Stud in partnership, Shamal Wind is the first foal from Firemaid (USA), a winning half-sister by Machiavellian to stakes-winner Bezrin and to the dam of Group II winner Al Thankhira.
A grand-daughter of Group I winner My Darling One, Firemaid had a Sebring colt last spring and is now in foal to Fastnet Rock.
