Global Glamour Makes Gai History

Gai Waterhouse has won the Group I ATC Flight Stakes on nine previous occasions, but until today had surprisingly never won the Group I MRC Thousand Guineas.

Now training in partnership with Adrian Bott, Gai finally found the filly to win the race in Global Glamour, who achieved the feat off a seven day back-up after capturing the Group I ATC Flight Stakes at Randwick last week.

By Widden Stud’s exciting young sire Star Witness, Global Glamour has shown not only ability, but also temperament and constitution to translate winning from Sydney to Melbourne in such a short time frame.

Taken to the lead by Kerrin McEvoy, she was ridden like the best filly in the race and prove that was the case when forging clear to win by a length over I Am a Star (I Am Invincible) and Whispering Brook (Hinchinbrook).

“She’s an absolute star,” Bott said. “She’s a very special filly and she’s proven that today.

“We saw her put it altogether last start and then today we saw her take it to a new level again.”
Whether the Waterhouse and Bott team press on with the spring campaign will be decided in due course.

“We’ll take a deep breath and let the dust settle,” Bott said. “We’ll enjoy the moment today before making any firm plans.”

A $65,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Lauriston Thoroughbred Farm draft for renowned bloodstock agent James Bester on behalf of the It’s All About the Girls Syndicate, Global Glamour has won three of five starts earning $641,500 for her diverse group of lady owners, who come from all over the world.

Global Glamour was also bred by Lauriston and is the second winner for metro winning Testa Rossa mare Spectacula.

She is the fifth stakes-winner for Widden Stud’s Star Witness and is his first Group I winner.

The Champion Two and Three Year Old Colt of his generation, Star Witness stands at a fee of $16,500 this year.
