Star Trial for Turn
Last seen finishing just behind the place-getters in the Group I ATC Golden Slipper and MRC Blue Diamond Stakes, Star Witness colt Star Turn stepped out at the Warwick Farm trials on Monday morning.
Looking big and burly, the Hawkes Racing trained colt jumped fast to cross from his outside gate and was then eased by Tommy Berry to lead, albeit at a steady pace.
Given more rein over the final furlong, he quickened nicely and while the overall time for the 740 metre trial on the all weather track was slow (45.7), it was a good pipe opener to kick start his spring campaign.
A $400,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Widden Stud draft, Star Turn runs for well-known Sydney owner Alan Bell.
He has shown glimpses of brilliance during his five start career to date, so Star Turn will not need to improve much to make his presence felt in the early spring races.
Star Turn is entered for the Group I ATC Golden Rose on September 10, while the Group I VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes, won by his sire Star Witness in 2010, is no doubt also in his sights if the cards fall his way.
Star Turn is one of 45 winners this season for Star Witness, Australia’s leading second season sire by winners.
