Promising Debut Winner for Star Witness

Hawkes Racing produced three year-old Star Witness gelding Firsthand to win the 1100 metre maiden at Wyong on Sunday in good style.

The talented bay gelding showed good pace to settle just behind the leaders for Tommy Berry before dashing clear over the final furlong.

Firsthand scored by a length and a half and has obviously been showing plenty of ability as he is entered for the Group II ATC Arrowfield Sprint at The Championships in April.

A $125,000 Inglis Easter Session II purchase for is trainer from the Goodwood Farm draft, Firsthand is a half-brother to stakes-placed Bale Star and Public Holiday being the sixth winner from Thanskgiving.

A placed daughter of Epsom Derby winner Generous (IRE), Thanksgiving comes from the Great Klaire branch of the Eight Carat family that has produced Group I winners Bonanova, Fraternity and Telesto.

Thanksgiving has been married to Star Witness in recent years and has been back to him every year since Firsthand was born.
