Magic Win for Star Witness Filly
Talented Star Witness filly Magic Alibi made her big team of owners very happy when she resumed from a spell to score a stylish win at Canterbury on Wednesday beating older mares in the Benchmark 72 event over 1100 metres.
A winner at her first run back from a spell at the same venue last September, the Gerald Ryan trained Magic Alibi has won two of six starts and nearly $70,000 in prizemoney.
Bred by the Laing Racing Syndicate, who also raced her mother, Magic Alibi was offered at the Magic Millions by Widden Stud as agent but passed in shy of her reserve and is the first foal of This Magic Moment.
A minor winner by Magic Albert, This Magic Moment is a grand-daughter of Group I Queensland Oaks winner Tristram Rose and was covered again by Star Witness last spring.
Magic Alibi is one of 26 winners this season for Star Witness, who is the leading Australian Second Season Sire by winners and has progeny earnings in excess of $1million since August 1.
The Blue Diamond hero of 2010, Star Witness covered 143 mares last year at Widden Stud at a fee of $22,000 and has 14 entries for the upcoming Inglis Premier Yearling Sale.
