Debut Winner for Star Witness
Two year-old Star Witness filly Star Galaxy was sent out favourite for the juvenile maiden at Canterbury on Wednesday, but Pierro gelding Noviero made her work hard to post the win.
Unbeaten in two previous trials, Star Galaxy was tenacious to the line for Kerrin McEvoy afte missing the start, scoring a long head win over Noviero in the 1100 metre maiden.
A $70,000 Inglis Classic purchase for James Harron Bloodstock from the Rosemont Stud draft, Star Galaxy is the first foal of metro winning Not a Single Doubt mare Jackpot Queen, who comes from a family of slick sprinters including current Group II winner In Her Time.
Star Witness has had a great season with Group I winner Global Glamour, Group II winner Star Turn, Group III winner Fuhryk and stakes-winner Lycurgus all keeping his name in lights.
The champion two and three year-old sprinting colt of his generation, Star Witness covered his biggest ever book of 220 mares last year at Widden Stud and is priced for 2017 at $33,000.
