$1million Filly for Zoustar

Widden Stud’s first crop sires Zoustar and Shamus Award both made their mark at the 2017 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

The only first season sire to produce a million dollar yearling this year, Zoustar had 13 yearlings average $215,385 in Book One with his top seller a royally bred filly from blue hen Listen Here that made $1million for Edinglassie Stud when snapped up by Bruce Perry Bloodstock.

A half-sister to Group I winner Shooting to Win and Group II winner Deep Field from the immediate family of NZ Group I winner Luna Rossa, the glamour filly will run for prominent New Zealand owner and breeder Lib Petagna

Bruce Perry paid $3.4 million for the filly’s dam Listen Here, on behalf of the China Horse Club at a broodmare sale last year, so is no stranger to the merits of the pedigree.

“To be honest I didn’t think we’d buy her the way this market is,” Perry told Racenet.

“We didn’t have any intention to buy her but when I saw her I said to Lib that at that sort of money if you keep her for 20 years you can build an empire from her.

“She’s a slightly different type to her dam but on this market I truly believe she is value. I know the mare well and I thought she was a standout on type and (pedigree) page.

“We’ve bought her to be a racehorse but she’s going to make a beautiful broodmare.”

Perry said she would go to New Zealand to commence her career but could race in Australia if she lives up to her price tag.

“She’ll start off there. If she’s good enough then she might end up with Kris (Lees), but we’ll see – she’s got to be fast first,” Perry said.

Shamus Award had just two yearlings to be offered, one in Book One and one in Book Two and both were sold for good prices.

The half-sister to Golden Slipper winner She Will Reign from Courgette fetched $425,000 for Yarraman Park when bought by Attunga Stud / Blandford Bloodstock, while Newhaven Park sold a strong athletic colt from Attractive for $185,000 to K Cheung / Blossom Breeding.
