New SW for Stratum and a Flurry of Star Witness Winners
Widden Stud’s former stalwart Stratum continues to churn out the stakes-winners with Precious Memories winning the Listed WATC Challenge Stakes at Ascot on Saturday becoming the 33rd stakes-winner for the 2005 Golden Slipper winner.
Trained by Raquel Mills, Precious Memories scored a half head win in the 1500 metre contest, her second win from 10 starts with prizemoney topping $190,000.
Retained to race by her breeders, Precious Memories is the best of two winners from unraced Charge Forward mare Precious Moment, a half-sister to Group III winner Mirrasolo and daughter of stakes-winner St Therese.
The current yearling from Precious Moment, a filly by Your Song, will be offered as Lot 19 by Touchstone Farm at the 2017 Magic Millions Yearling Sale in Perth.
Precious Moment was one of 220 mares covered last spring by Widden Stud’s current hot sire Star Witness, who has had eight winners in the past seven days as well as top colt Star Turn , who resumed from a spell with a close third in the Group I VRC Lightning Stakes.
Star Witness sired Well Sprung to win at Flemington on Saturday and Stellar Collision to win at Moonee Valley on Friday night, while Pumpkin Pie won the $150,000 Country Championships heat at Goulburn on Saturday and Heaven’s Delight won the Magic Millions Tasmanian 2YO Classic earlier in the week.
Star Witness is on a winning roll as we head into Autumn and has 10 entries for the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, while Stratum has half a dozen.
