Golden Rose Second for Zousain
The Group I $1million Golden Rose was won in 2013 by our outstanding young sire Zoustar and his super talented son Zousain nearly emulated his achievement at Rosehill on Saturday when finishing a close second to The Autumn Sun.
The Chris Waller trained Zousain burst to the front and looked set for victory in the 1400 metre sprint before his stablemate The Autumn Sun charged home to beat him by a mere short neck.
“I thought he was home,” said his rider James McDonald.
“I couldn’t hear anything coming but then, The bloody Autumn Sun with blinkers on!”
Now part owned by Widden Stud, Zousain was sensational in defeat with the Group I VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) looming as his grand final this spring.
