Exciting Flemington Win for Red Inca

Melbourne – Cranbourne trainer Ray Besanko was delighted with the performance of his Stratum three year-old Red Inca at Flemington on Saturday when the flashy chestnut gelding charged home to score an impressive win.
Red Inca broke his maiden at Mornington on November 11 and has been not far away in three subsequent runs in the metropolitan area since then, so was overdue to break through.
He settled back in the field for Peter Mertens as is his pattern of racing and produced a long sustained burst down the outside of the field from the home turn to snatch a narrow half neck victory in the 1400 metre open three year-old event.
Connections indicated they may now look towards the Group I VRC Australian Guineas at Flemington on March 2 if Red Inca continues to progress.
An $80,000 Magic Millions purchase from the draft of Widden Stud, Red Inca has won two races and placed twice from eight starts earning $84,250 in prizemoney.
“We went up to Magic Millions with a group of six mates and looked at about 100 horses before deciding on him and while we had to go $10,000 over our budget to get him, it’s been worth it,” Ray Besanko said.
Red Inca is a half-brother to six other winners including stakes-placed Wishart and is from Beautiful Victory, whose dam is a sister to Group I winner Quicksilver Cindy.
Beautiful Victory hasn’t had a foal the last couple of years, but was covered last spring by young Widden Stud based sire Tickets.
