Debut Winner for Northern Meteor
Kembla – Record breaking sprinter Northern Meteor posted his fifth winner when the Gai Waterhouse trained gelding Equator saluted on debut at Kembla on Saturday.
Carrying the purple and white stars of Star Thoroughbreds, Equator finished off strongly to beat his stablemate Liberty’s Choice, by a length in the 1000 metre juvenile maiden.
Equator was a $140,000 Magic Millions purchase from the draft of boutique South Coast based vendor Bell View Park and is the second winner for Sun Maid, a half-sister by Desert Sun (GB) to Group II winner Love of Mary and to the dam of world champion sprinter Sacred Kingdom, who is by Northern Meteor’s sire Encosta de Lago.
Sun Maid was one of 160 mares covered by Northern Meteor last spring, the young sire set to have strong representation at the 2013 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale where 17 of his offspring have been catalogued.
