Adelaide Cup Next for Widden Graduate

Melbourne – The Listed VRC Roy Higgins Quality at Flemington on Saturday was won in good style by seasoned stayer Kutchinsky, a $290,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the draft of Widden Stud.
The six year-old son of Anabaa (USA) was transferred to Danny O’Brien last year and has made steady improvement this campaign signalling his return to top form with a good win at Flemington two runs back.
Luckless when fifth in the Listed Mornington Cup last start when he was hampered by a riderless horse, Kutchinsky bounced back here for Craig Williams to score a strong finishing length and a half win in the 2500 metre staying test.
“He had no luck last start and today it was a beautiful ride and he was always in a sweet position, so I was confident,” said Danny O’Brien.
A winner of the Group III BRC Grand Prix and second in the Group I QTC Queensland Derby at three, Kutchinsky has always shown above average staying ability and has the overall record of five wins and seven placings from 32 starts with prizemoney of $458,742.
“He was really well looked after where he was before with Tony Noonan ad came to us in very good condition,” said O’Brien.
“It was just a matter of getting him back to his best and now he’ll go to the Adelaide Cup on Monday week.”
Bred and offered for sale by Widden Stud, Kutchinsky is the best of four foals from ill-fated My First Zabeel, a half-sister by champion sire Zabeel to former star sprinter Isca and stakes-winners Star Alight and Slapstick.
Widden Stud will offer a quality draft of a dozen youngster for the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale starting on Sunday.
