Stakes Potential for Sebring Winner
Sydney – Golden Slipper winner Sebring posted his eighth winner at Warwick Farm on Wednesday when talented filly Florid Affair scored a resounding victory for the Gai Waterhouse stable.
The stylish bay was an unlucky third on debut behind subsequent Group II winner Scandiva at Warwick Farm on March 21, so was sent out favourite for this 1250 metre maiden.
She gave her supporters no cause for concern, jumping well for Nash Rawiller and surging forward, before dashing right away down the running to win by four lengths with another Sebring filly also trained by Waterhouse in Aztec Rose finishing third.
“She was very impressive and always showed us good ability before her first start, but did a few things wrong that day,” said stable representative Mark Newnham.
“She’s a high class filly and has showed that from day one, so hopefully she will get a stakes win on the board this preparation.”
Third place-getter Aztec Rose also came in for praise.
“She’s a lovely filly too and probably looking for a bit further, but her turn is not far away, ” Newnham added.
Florid Affair was a $200,000 Magic Millions purchase for Gai Waterhouse/James Harron Bloodstock and runs in the colours of her breeder Gerry Harvey, who races the filly in partnership with various Waterhouse stable clients.
She is the fourth winner for unraced Danehill (USA) mare Show Exhibit, who comes from the family of Group I Irish Derby winner El Gran Senor tracing back to celebrated producer Best in Show.
Florid Affair is the eighth winner for Sebring, who is the leading first season sires by winners and stakes-winners, his star colt Criterion set to contest the Group I ATC Golden Slipper this Saturday.
