Winning Debut for Nicconi’s Celestine
Nicconi might be best known as the sire of the country’s best sprinter Nature Strip, but he’s also a prolific sire of winners including Wednesday’s debut juvenile winner Celestine, another successful debutant for the James Harron Bloodstock Fillies Syndication enterprise.
Trained by Tony and Calvin McEvoy, Celestine was a well backed favourite and scored a most comfortable length win in the 900 metre juvenile maiden at Murray Bridge.
A $145,000 Inglis Classic purchase from the Newhaven Park draft for JHB Syndications / McEvoy Mitchell Racing, Celestine is the second winner from Gleams, an unraced Northern Meteor daughter of stakes-placed La Belle Chataigne.
Gleams has another weanling colt by Nicconi to follow so the Kelly’s at Newhaven Park will be most happy to have seen Celestine come out and win so nicely.
Nicconi is closing in on 100 winners for the season with 95 to his credit that have won over $9million in prizemoney including six stakes-winners.
He stands at Widden Stud this spring at a fee of $27,500.
