Widden Stud Sell $1.9Million Snitzel Colt

Widden Stud and David Redvers Bloodstock made a big investment at the 2019 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale paying $1.2million for young stakes-winning O’Reilly mare Bonny O’Reilly, who was in foal to Snitzel, and the foal she was carrying produced a big pay day at the Gold Coast on Tuesday when selling for $1.9million at the Magic Millions Yearling Sale.

Consigned by Widden, the Snitzel colt was much admired and attracted spirited bidding before he was finally secured by Tom Magnier for $1.9million.

Magnier, who late last year paid $4.2million to secure glamour mare Sunlight from the Widden draft at the National Broodmare Sale, said today’s top seller would be heading to Sydney’s leading trainer Chris Waller.

“He’s a really nice horse,” Magnier said. “I think all the top people were on him and we’ve got a great group of people to race him with.

“We’re going to need a bit of luck – but we’re in the right country – the prizemoney is great here in Australia.”

The colt is the first foal for Bonny O’Reilly, who has been given every chance to succeed at stud and has a Zoustar colt foal to follow and was covered by I Am Invincible last year.

Bonny O’Reilly is a half-sister to stakes-winner Pretty to Sea and comes from a great New Zealand female family featuring Group I winners Vision and Power, Glamour Puss and Steps in Time.

Widden Stud had a hot couple of minutes selling the I Am Invincible filly from Group I winner Bonaria just two lots previously for $975,000 to Busuttin Racing, who also bought our Sebring filly from Arianne for $400,000.

At the end of the first day of trade, Widden Stud led the vendors by aggregate and average list selling all four yearlings we offered for $3,395,000 at an average $848,750 with out draft producing the top selling colt and filly of the session.

We were also particularly thrilled with the first yearling by Sebring’s young sire son Supido selling for $120,000. A half-brother to stakes-winner Bisutti from Absolute Flirt, he was knocked down to Danny O’Brien Racing.
