Widden Enjoy Good Result at Tattersalls
The top lot during the opening session of the Tattersalls December Foal Sale was bred by Antony Thompson of Widden Stud, his Champs Elysee colt from Dahama selling for 160,000 guineas.
Bruce Perry Bloodstock bought the colt’s dam Dahama on behalf of Antony Thompson at the Tattersalls Broodmare Sale last year for 21,000 guineas when she was in foal to Champs Elysee with this colt the result of the mating.
Consigned for sale by Plumton Hall Stud, the colt was purchased by Philipp Stauffenberg of Stauffenberg Bloodstock who will send the youngster back to Germany for re-sale as a yearling next year.
A daughter of champion sire Green Desert, Dahama provided a big pedigree update for her colt when her two year-old filly by Dubawi, Al Thakhira, came out and won the Group II Newmarket Rockfel Stakes, making her purchase look a very good one indeed.
“We originally bought Dahama to take back home,” said Thompson.
“But then with this colt’s half-sister doing what she has we had a change of plan and left her here. He is a lovely horse, but I have to thank Eric Cantillon of Plumton Hall for producing him so well.”
Dahama is a half-sister to another Widden Stud owned import in Firemaid (USA), who is the dam of slick Australian stakes-winner Shamal Wind.
The current yearling from Firemaid, a colt by Stratum has been entered by Widden for the 2014 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
