Widden Stud Bred and Sold Our Playboy Wins Winx Guineas
It was a Winx-like performance by the Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr-trained Sebring three year-old Our Playboy when he came from last to romp home by five and three-quarter lengths in the $175,000 Group III Winx Guineas (1600m) at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday.
Last year’s Group III Vain Stakes winner has been on an extended holiday in Queensland dating back to December.
With Robbie Fradd in the saddle, he settled back last of the 15 runners. Saving many lengths by sticking to the rails around the home turn, Our Playboy sailed through with an uninterrupted run to win by a commanding five and three-quarter lengths.
“It was a matter of following two horses that I preferred to follow than ones I did not want to, but once he saw daylight, he just sprinted away,” Fradd said.
“He relaxed beautifully, switched off and was travelling nicely on the bridle.
“His wins have been on soft tracks in Victoria, so he released at the 200m and really enjoyed it.”
A $210,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Widden Stud draft, Our Playboy advances his record to four wins from 14 starts with earnings of $298,330.
Bred by Widden Stud in partnership, Our Playboy is the first winner from two to race for Mischief Night, an unraced half-sister by Shamardal (USA) to Group I winner Pierata and Group III winner Ashokan.
Widden onsold Mischief Night at the 2019 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale, making $200,000 to the bid of Hollymount Stud when in foal to Pierata’s sire Pierro.
The subsequent colt foal sold for $450,000 to the Hong Kong Jockey Club, when offered by Kingstar Farm at the 2021 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
