Impressive Winner for Northern Meteor

Three year-old Northern Meteor gelding Cushy Number put it altogether at his third start, dashing right way to win as he pleased as a heavily backed favourite at Wyong on Sunday.

Prepared by Joe Pride, Cushy Number has improved at every outing and ran the fastest time of the three maidens run at 1350 metres on the day by almost a second.

A $55,000 Inglis Easter purchase for bloodstock agent Steve Brem from the Holbrook Thoroughbreds draft, Cushy Number runs in the colours of well-known Sydney owner/ breeder Peter Horwitz.

He is the sixth winner from six foals to race from stakes-placed Zabeel mare Zacushla, who had a double on the day as her Testa Rossa four year-old Murcielaga also scored at Sale.

The last crop of foals by our ill-fated sire Northern Meteor are being born this spring, his superstar son Zoustar set to run as favourite in the Group I VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes this Saturday.
