Sebring Filly Wins G2 Light Fingers Stakes

Widden Stud’s much missed Golden Slipper winning sire Sebring has a real star on the rise in the shape of Fangirl, who posted her fourth consecutive win when beating her much hyped stablemate Espiona in the Group II ATC Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on Saturday.

A homebred for the Ingham family prepared by Chris Waller, Fangirl was first up from a spell after winning the Group III VRC Carbine Club Stakes over the colts in the spring, but had too much ticker at the finish to claim a fast finishing long head win.

“She is a talented filly and we saw what she did down at Flemington on Derby Day, which is never easy for a filly to beat those boys and she did that easily. She won with a bit of class today too,” Waller said.

“I haven’t watched the replay yet, but I don’t think Hugh (Bowman) got too urgent with her, it was a bit of hands and heels and away she went.

“It will be interesting to see what comes from the race and how much they both improve, and obviously others in the race as well. I think she has got a bright future and no disgrace Espiona.”

The Group I ATC Surround Stakes (1400m) in two weeks time will see a rematch for the star fillies.

Fangirl has won four of six starts earning over $630,000 and is the best of four winners from Little Surfer Girl, who was bought by the Ingham family for $1.5million at the 2008 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

By champion sire Encosta de Lago from Champion 3YO Filly and dual Group I winner Special Harmony, Little Surfer Girl won three stakes races for the Ingham’s during her career and earned over $400,000 in prizemoney.

Now a three time stakes-winner, Fangirl is a rising star for Sebring, whose last crop of foals are two year-olds this season.
