Impressive Winning Debut for Fiorente Filly
An impressive debut winner at Ballarat on Monday was Silent Surrente, a half-sister to two stakes-winners by Melbourne Cup winner Fiorente (IRE).
The Tony and Calvin McEvoy trained 3YO filly Silent Surrente has a bit to live up to as a half-sister to multiple Group winner Silent Sovereign and smart stakes-winner Silent Command, but she looks to have inherited a good bit of the family talent.
Despite racing greenly, she powered to the line from back in the field to score an eye-catching win in the 1400m maiden on the synthetic track .
“She did a really good job as she’s bred to get a lot further,” said Calvin McEvoy.
“She never travelled and we knew she’d find it a little bit short, but we wanted to give her a nice educational run and she was never really winning until that last 200, 300m.
“The mare she’s out of has done a super job producing a couple of stakes-winners including Silent Sovereign, who won a G2 a couple of weeks ago. Silent Sovereign was quite hot and then settled into herself and we hope this filly will do the same.”
Retained to race by her breeders, Silent Surrente is the fourth winner from four foals to race from Group III winning Face Value mare Silent Surround, who traces back to the family of Cox Plate winning filly Surround.
A proven source of stakes-winners, Fiorente is priced very affordably this spring at Widden Stud Victoria at $9,900.
