Widden Stud Announce 2023 Fees – Zoustar Tops Roster
With two top class stallion rosters in NSW and Victoria, Widden Stud are proud to present a diverse selection of quality commercial stallions headed by our champion sire Zoustar, in company with a myriad of proven and promising options priced to suit all budgets.
Zoustar has sired 5 Group One winners and 35 stakes winners and broke new ground in 2022 when siring Northern Hemisphere bred Group I winner Lezoo to become Champion European 2YO Filly.
On the home front he’s been just as potent with a clean sweep of The Darley Princess Series with Group I winner Zougotcha leading the way, while in the sale ring Zoustar has sired seven individual yearlings to sell for a million dollars or more this year.

Zoustar’s exciting sire son Zousain has been very popular with breeders covering 573 mares in his first three seasons, with his first crop yearlings selling for up to $650,000. Averaging $133,000 across all sales to date in 2023, his yearlings have made 6.7 times the service fee, offering a sensational return to those who supported Zousain in his first year at stud.

Champion 3YO Trapeze Artist has already had two stakes horses from his five winners and a star filly in multiple Group placed Facile, plus Introducing, Tumbling, Artistica and Spin Doctor with his yearlings this year selling for up to $850,000, being purchased by the best judges in the business.

Champion 2YO Written By has also been quick to make his mark with two stakes-winners in The Novelist and Ripcord plus an additional two stakes horses. His yearlings this year have sold for up to $410,000 and averaged over $170,000 at Magic Millions and Inglis Premier and Inglis Easter sales.

Proven stalwart sires Nicconi, Magnus, Star Witness and Fiorente take all the guesswork out of the equation for broodmare owners, consistently producing winners and stakes horses with their progeny always met with approval in the sale ring.
Aside from his flagship runner Nature Strip, Nicconi has also had a promising new 2YO stakes-winner in Bossy Nic as well a new HK stakes-winner in Super Sunny Sing. Magnus has achieved career best results in the past two years with progeny earning over $11 million in 2021 and $12 million in 2022. Star Witness has had a new stakes-winner at home in Fast Witness, as well as some smart winners in Hong Kong, where he runs at 70% winners to runners and 10% stakes horses to runners. Melbourne Cup winning Fiorente who has sired Gr.1 placegetters in the VRC Guineas, VRC Derby & SAJC Derby and has the Melbourne Cup bound Luna Flare.

Rebel Dane and Gold Standard both joined Widden Stud last season after siring first crop Group 1 winning 2YO fillies from limited opportunities and we are committed to ensuring their future success. Rebel Dane produced Golden Slipper winner and Champion 2YO Filly Fireburn in his second crop and covered his largest book of 111 mares last spring, giving him a great opportunity to build on his early success.

Gold Standard also impressively from his first crop produced Group 1 BRC JJ Atkins Stakes winner Sheeza Belter and covered an increased book of 124 mares last spring in Victoria.

Another of our younger sires scaling the ladder of success is Supido, a brilliantly fast son of Sebring from a proven international sire making family. With his eldest progeny just three year-olds, Supido has already produced two outstanding stakes-winning colts in Group I placed Buenos Noches and undefeated What You Need. The only second crop sire to have sired more stakes-winners being Russian Revolution. Supido covered his biggest ever book of 170 mares last spring, so he is poised for a serious upswing.

Group I winner Portland Sky retired to Widden Stud last year and is set to continue the legacy of the immensely popular and successful Deep Field as his only Group I winning son at stud.

This release comes on the heels of yesterday’s unveiling of dual Group I winner Jaquinot, who will retire to Widden for the spring as the Timeform highest rated colt of his generation and is priced at $33,000.
There is also the prospect of a big announcement with another new stallion joining the Widden Victoria roster likely next week.
