More Group Success for Trapeze Artist Mare

One of the star performers for Trapeze Artist this season, Pinito added another Group win to her tally when taking out the $200,000 BRC Magic Millions Fillies and Mares Mile (1600m) at Doomben on Saturday.

Godolphin don’t buy many yearlings at Australian sales, but one that did take their fancy at Inglis Easter in 2023 was a $260,000 Trapeze Artist filly they purchased from Widden Stud and she is Pinito.

She closed out her three year-old season with a second in the Group I BRC Queensland Oaks after winning the Listed Gold Coast Bracelet and the Chris Waller trained mare is obviously happy to be back in the Queensland sun.

Pinito powered to the line under a well timed ride from James McDonald to win by a long head in a thriller.

“There’s a fantastic series of races up here and they’ll get better horses as a result. I think there’s a $500,000 race in two weeks’ time, maybe the same distance over the road (Eagle Farm),” said Chris Waller.

James McDonald was full of praise for Pinito.

“She’s a good horse,” said McDonald. “Obviously running second in the Oaks this time last year, so she’s no slouch.”

“The writing was on the wall, so to speak, because she was the well-performed horse coming into this race.”

Pinito is nothing if not consistent and from 16 starts has four wins and nine placings netting over $615,000 in prizemoney.

Bred by the Vieira Group, Pinito is the best of three winners from Waltzing Wodka, a winning half-sister by Sebring to Group II winners Zloties, Seaburge and Catch a Fire from the family of Group I winners La Volta and Mighty Boss.

Waltzing Wodka has been married to Trapeze Artist and was never covered by another stallion. She sadly died last year and her final foals are a yearling filly that sold for $100,000 at Inglis Premier last week to Proven Thoroughbreds / Hayfields Racing and a weanling filly.
