A luckless fifth when making her career debut over 1200 metres at Canterbury a fortnight back, the Gerald Ryan-trained Zoustar filly Zoumist displayed a dazzling turn of foot to put paid to a good looking field of two-year-olds over 1400 metres at Kembla Grange on Tuesday.

Settled back second last in the 13-horse field by Adrian Layt, Zoumist tracked in to the three-wide line approaching the home turn.

Godolphin’s Namazu, a Medagia d’Oro (USA) colt out of the Blue Diamond winner Earthquake, looked to have set up a winning lead at the 200 metres before Zoumist came with a barnstorming finish to prevail by a widening one and three-quarter lengths.

Zoumist was a class above her rivals here and looks to have the talent to go on to bigger and better things.

The homebred daughter of Zoustar is the seventh winner from nine to race out of the good producing General Nediym mare Surprise Bid , a granddaughter of the top-class Bustino mare Kittyhawk, winner of the Group II Lowther Stakes and was runner-up in the Group I Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Royal Ascot.
