Stellar Collision Wins Apache Cat

 In 2017

Star Witness posted a feature winner at Cranbourne on Friday when progressive four year-old Stellar Collision took out the $80,000 Apache Cat Handicap.

The Darren Weir trained gelding was sent out favourite for the 1200 metre sprint and cruised clear to win by more than a length.

Not offered at auction, Stellar Collision has now won six of 14 starts and over $222,000 in prizemoney and is the first winner for well-bred More Than Ready (USA) mare What an Impact, who comes from the family of Group II winner Elegant Fashion and her Group III winning daughter Star Fashion.

Further back the family traces to celebrated matriarch Highclere, whose many Group I winning descendants include the likes of Nashwan, Nayef, champion Japanese sire Deep Impact and imported Australian Group I winner My Kingdom of Fife.

What an Impact was one of 220 mares covered last spring by Star Witness, who was super popular with breeders last year after having his fee reduced to $16,500 before siring dual Group I winner Global Glamour
