The first official two year-old trials at Randwick on Monday featured 12 heats and the fastest on show was the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Written By colt Straight Charge, who clocked a brisk 48.46 seconds in his 850m gallop.

Ridden with plenty of purpose by Regan Bayliss, Straight Charge was sent forward to lead and when challenged and headed by Roselyn’s Star he fought back to draw clear and win by a length.

A $270,000 Magic Millions purchase for Yulong from the Lime Country Thoroughbreds draft, Straight Charge was a successful pinhook having made $160,000 for Twin Hills Stud at the Inglis Weanling Sale. He is bred to go fast being from Matryoshka, a half-sister by I Am Invincible to Group winners Winning Rupert and Tycoon Evie, who are both by Written By’s champion sire Written Tycoon.

Zoustar also made his presence felt with two promising heat winners, both trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott.

$1million Zoustar colt Espionage travelled deep and edged out the Peter and Paul Snowden trained $1.6million I Am Invincible colt Bodyguard, who had a cosy run on the fence with both colts carrying the James Harron Bloodstock colours.

Espionage was bought from the Baramul Stud draft at Magic Millions and is from In Times of War, a winning Street Cry (IRE) daughter of Magic Millions 2YO Classic and Group II winner Military Rose.

Zoustar fillies ran the quinella in the following heat with both trained by Gai and Adrian, Runaway Vixen led for home and held off the bigger and stronger Zoubelle in a good go to the line.
