$160,000 Nicconi Colt at Perth Magic Millions
Fresh from sale ring success at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, Nicconi was in demand again at the 2020 Perth Magic Millions with a colt from Elite Ateates fetching $160,000 during the first session on Monday.
Consigned by Dawson Stud and purchased by Suman Hedge Bloodstock /McEvoy Mitchell Racing/Belmont Bloodstock, the much admired colt is the third foal of a winning Exceed and Excel daughter of Group II winner Ateates.
A brilliant sprinter that won over $600,000 in prizemoney, Ateates is a full sister to Group I VRC Newmarket Handicap winner Ruffles so there is loads of speed in this family.
“First and foremost he was a lovely, athletic horse who is really strong. He moves well with good angles and he had a bit of quality about him and, physically, he was a horse that we rated highly in the sale,” Suman Hedge told ANZ News.
“Tony (McEvoy) felt the same way as I did and Damon Gabbedy, who is doing some work with Tony. We were all on the same page with him.
“Tony’s had a lot of success with that breed. He’s had a horse like Concealer run for him and he is out of a fast, running Exceed And Excel mare who won five. He ticks a lot of boxes for me and I was really happy.”
