$600,000 for Sunlight Sister
With exciting two year-old Zoustar filly Sunlight to run as one of the favourites in this Saturday’s $2million Magic Millions 2YO Classic, Widden Stud always had high expectation that her yearling full sister would set the sale ring alight on Thursday.
Widden sold Sunlight 12 months ago at the same sale where she made $300,000 when knocked down to Aquis/McEvoy Mitchell Racing/Blue Sky Bstock.
The first winner for her sire Zoustar, Sunlight has scored two brilliant wins from just three starts and was stakes-placed at her only other start at Flemington when making her debut in the spring.
Offered as Lot 330, the current yearling from Solar Charged, another filly by Zoustar attracted spirited bidding before being secured by McEvoy Mitchell Racing/ David Redvers Bloodstock for $600,000.
“She is twice the price of Sunlight last year but that is understandable because Sunlight looks like a real star of the future,” Tony McEvoy told ANZ Bloodstock News.
“This filly looked very similar to me, with the honesty in her eye and the feistiness that Sunlight has got. When you get fillies with that and they handle it the right way they are very hard to beat.
“Sunlight was probably a bigger model than her, but her eye and the way she moves are very similar. I think it was a very safe buy and it is very exciting.”
Solar Charged produced a colt by Sebring last year and is now back in foal to Zoustar.
