A pair of new juvenile winners and a first time stakes performer made it a good Saturday for Widden Stud’s Victorian based value sire Doubtland.

A fast Group II winning son of Not a Single Doubt, Doubtland was always expected to get 2YO winners and at Caulfield on Saturday the Nick Ryan trained gelding Doubt Time made a winning debut.

He settled back and charged to the line with a scintillating burst of speed to catch race favourite Resolutely on the line to win the 1100m contest by a head.

 

A $140,000 Inglis Premier purchase for  Sharona King / Nick Ryan Racing from the Finders Park Stud draft, Doubt Time is very much stamped in the mould of his sire.

“It’s what it’s all about isn’t it,” said an elated Nick Ryan after the win.

“I galloped him Thursday morning on the inside grass at Flemington and I just pushed the button a little bit for the last 50 (metres) and nearly fell off the back of him.

“He’s a nice horse, very much like his father. His father won his first start on a soft 7 on the Kensington (Randwick) and he came from the back and he balanced up and just had a monstrous stride.”

Doubt Time is likely to spell after his winning debut.

“He’s two and we are going to have to see how he is in the morning – how his shins are etc,” Ryan said.

“He’ll definitely be in the paddock regardless next week. Let’s just see how he pulls up, but gee that was pretty impressive.”

Doubt Time is the  third winner from three foals to race from Hinchin Time, a winning Hinchinbrook mare from the family of Group winners such as Silverstream, Speedy Natalie and Caste.

Doubtland then posted a second juvenile winner on Saturday when Maria Clara scored at the Gold Coast over 1000m at her second start for the Tony and Maddyson Sears stable.

 

 

Putting the icing on the cake for Doubtland was three year-old filly Yuuki, who ran second to race favourite Cavalry Girl in the Listed SAJC Lightning Stakes (1100m) at Morphettville.

Yuuki has been super consistent with her overall record two wins and six placings from 10 starts with her prizemoney just shy of $100,000.

Doubtland has sired 28 winners in total from his first two crops to race including six juvenile winners this season and Yuuki is one of four stakes performers for him this season.

With his oldest progeny about to turn four, Doubtland has been supported by some astute breeders including Gilgai Farm and they were rewarded at Inglis Premier this year when selling a colt from Granada Star for $320,000, which set a new sales benchmark for his sire.

Doubtland is priced at just $11,000 this spring.
