Dazzling Return for Russian Camelot Rising Star
Widden Stud’s gorgeous stallion Russian Camelot (IRE) is a showstopper in the looks department and his lightly raced four year-old Veyepee is stamped very much in his image and posted his third win from four starts at Sandown on Wednesday.
Trained by Anthony and Sam Freedman, Veyepee was resuming from a spell in the Benchmark 70 event over 1500m with Blake Shinn to ride.
He stormed to the lead and raced away from the race favourite Cashout to win by a length and a half in a commanding performance.

Veyepee was a $140,000 Inglis Premier purchase for Dream Thoroughbreds / Bluegrass Bloodstock (FBAA) / Anthony Freedman Racing and is a half-brother to stakes-placed Ceccheti from Group III placed Savabeel mare Vandancer.
With three wins from four starts and prizemoney topping $90,000, connections will be looking get his rating up as he works through his grades towards Black Type goals later in the spring.
Veyeypee the third winner from three foals to race from Vandancer, a full sister to stakes-winner Queen Sabeel, the dam of Group III winner Sagunto. Going back further it is the family of the great front running champion of the 1980’s Vo Rogue.
Pedigree gurus will be fascinated with this pedigree for another reason as Veyepee has a unique 4 x 4 x 4 triple cross of champion sire Sadler’s Wells, which is not something you see every day and certainly not in Australia.
Widden Stud sold a full brother to Veyepee at Magic Millions last year to Matt Cumani for $125,000 and Vandancer was covered again last year by Russian Camelot after producing a colt by Bruckner and a yearling filly by Doubtland.
The only sire son of champion staying sire Camelot at stud in Australia, Russian Camelot stands at Widden Victoria a fee of $11,000.
