Cranbourne Juvenile Winners for Widden Sires
Juvenile maiden events at Cranbourne on Sunday both went the way of Widden Stud sired youngsters with Stratum colt Chase the Horizon taking the opening event and Nicconi filly Niccorama following up to win the second race.
The Peter Moody trained Chase the Horizon was having his second start following a handy third on debut at Mornington earlier this month.
The fourth two year-old winner this month for Stratum, he strode clear to win the 1200 metre scamper by a length and a quarter as favourite.
Retained to race by his breeder, Chase the Horizon is the second winner for Group III winning Encosta de Lago mare Tan Tat de Lago, who was covered last spring by Sebring.
Nicconi posted his 49th winner of the season when two year-old filly Niccorama outpointed Star Witness colt Well Sprung to win by half a head with nearly five lengths back to the third horse.
It was a pleasing debut for the John Salanitri trained filly who can only improve for the experience.
She is the second winner for Escarpment, a Woodman (USA) half-sister to Group III winner Shanzero and stakes-winner What’s the Mail.
