Another Widden Stud Sold Group One Winner

Darby Racing paid just $10,000 to secure Yankee Rose from the Widden Stud draft at the 2015 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale and the bargain priced filly tasted Group I success at Randwick on Saturday scoring a brilliant win in the ATC Sires Produce Stakes.

Second in the Group I ATC Golden Slipper at her first run back from a spell, the David Vandyke trained filly was way too good for the colts in taking the 1400 metre feature by two and a half lengths.

“I’ve been trying to win a Group I for 29 years and had probably 30 runners but to win that race like that today – I can’t describe how I’m feeling,” Vandyke said.

“To win one at Randwick – I started working here when I was a teenager and this track means so much to me more than any other.

“I am still numb. I can’t believe I have actually won a Group 1,

“When I walk around with her and do things with her, I think she’s an average sort of filly but when she races it’s a different story.

“She’s just outstanding and has champion qualities. She was outstanding in the Slipper and went on with it today.”

Yankee Rose has the overall record of three wins and a second from four starts with prizemoney topping $1.5 million.
