Smart Win for Nicconi 3YO
Promising Nicconi gelding Sonic Swish opened his account with a tenacious victory at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.
The Tim Martin trained Sonic Swish had been placed at his only three previous runs and was just a little too tough and seasoned for royally bred Street Cry (IRE) filly Maraam, worrying her out of the win in the 1200 metre maiden to score by a short half head with three lengths back to the next horse.
Martin is optimistic Sonic Swish will be winning more races.
“He hasn’t always shown plenty, but I think he’s definitely a Saturday class horse and hopefully a bit better.
“He’ll go to another midweek race and then a Saturday race over the carnival. If he can stay a mile, he’ll win a lot more races.”
A $30,000 Magic Millions purchase for Topline Thoroughbreds from the Eliza Park International draft, Sonic Swish is from Decibeel, a full sister to Listed SAJC ST Leger winner Thousand Veils.
He is one of more than 60 winners this season for Nicconi, who covered 115 mares last year at a fee of $11,000.
