Impressive Hong Kong Debut for Stratum 3YO
Hong Kong – Scoring an impressive win at his first run in Hong Kong on Sunday was the John Moore trained Stratum three year-old Smart Man.
A winner for Chris Waller at Hawkesbury last March, Smart Man was sent to Hong Kong in August last year and was making his first appearance for his new trainer in the Class Three event over 1200 metres.
Allowed to settle back in the field from a wide draw by Tim Clark, Smart Man unleashed a sizzling finishing burst to charge home and win by two lengths.
Smart Man was a $240,000 Magic Millions purchase from the draft of Widden Stud for Scone Bloodstock Services and is the first foal for Eckland, a young Spinning World (USA) daughter of stakes-placed Monterosso from the family of stakes-winner Flouro.
Eckland had a filly foal by our young stallion Star Witness last spring and was subsequently covered by the same sire.
